Detector help......

BIG-BOB

New member
Hi everyone...I have detected on and off for about 20 years and 3 years ago I had a bad injury..after 5 back surgeries and fusions and a triple foot fusion I am actually ready to start detecting again...lol..I need the exercise
I have owned 2 Whites XLT's and 2 MXT's..... I have been looking into the Whites M6 and the Garretts AT-Pro ....I live in North Western New Jersey and I have a lot of old farms and homes to hunt I also hunt local parks...schools...churches....beaches etc....I am not looking for all kinds of programs and crap to play with I basically use the preset programs and just play with the Disc and thresh.... how are these 2 detectors and which would you reccomend I have always used Whites detectors but here alot about the AT-Pro...... thanks for all your help.

I have never tried the M6, but I do own an AT Pro. And having the option of water and land hunting in one detector was the selling point for me. Two in one ... you can't beat it for the price. Good luck with your decision .. !

IMHO Garrett AT Pro ~ waterproof to 10' ~ AT stands for "All Terrain" ~ has notch discrim plus numerical readout.

Wish this model was out when I bought my Ace 250.

Hey, glad to see you are going to get back out and stay in shape! I've got an Atpro, love it of course, simple, fast, light, and more power than a guy needs in most situations..plus the fact that I dont have to worry about it if I toss it in the boat, or back of the truck, or want to hunt in the rain or snow or any danged thing. I know Whites makes a quality product too...never had one, but follow the posts of their loyal users and finders! anyway the AtPro more matches my personality.

Hi Big Bob,i've never owned the At Pro so I can't give any advice on it.I have owned the M6 and I can say it is one of the most simple to operate but most effective machines on the market today. It has good depth,is great in the trash, has great ground tracking and has a great range of coils to choose from. The other bonus with this machine is its ability to perform really well on wet salt sand.....it is one of the best single frequency machines for use on the beaches. If you want a simple machine with big performance the M6 is one of the best ever made.

Had an AT Pro and sold it shortly after buying it. Having the ability to use it in the water is a plus but after using White's for so long, everything else fails in comparison when build quality is addressed.

If I was starting over I would go with the AT Pro or one of the Tesoro's.

IMHO--- get a light machine the M-6 is not deep and its heavy I recomend two detectors for you as your sit in doctor, get a dues -- or a tesoro vaqero or outlaw , you need a light weight detector not a 4 pound sledge hammer I have a freind whoes back is badd and he can only use the tesoroes and has to be carfull if you can aford the dues thats a great machine. otherwise get a 2.2pound tesoro. one with a ground balance.

Two thumbs up for the Garrett AT-Pro in my opinion. Good luck with your recovery. Be careful not to push yourself too hard and re-injure yourself. HH. Matt

Bob:
The AT Pro is a great detector. Check out the tutorials
on Garretts website and see what I mean when I say how
easy it is to operate. But for me, I am soon to get the AT
Gold. It too can be used as an all around machine but is
better at Gold Prospecting than the AT Pro. The Pro is
much lighter than the MXT or M6.
