Detector got wet

Hi
I have cought up in the storm and my metal detector got wet a bit, despite that I put on plastic bag on it, and now buttons stopped working correctly , but notch and FREQ button works fine, and still detector caches metal as before.
At the moment I left it to dry for few days. So, maybe any advices or suggestions what more I can do to avoid more demage? or maybe after drying detector for a few days the buttons will work fine again? maybe anyone had this problem before?
Now I feel very so bad for my metal detector and I hope that something I can do .
Thanks, Valentas

I worked in electronics for about 30 years. It would have been better if you hadn't turned it on at all, but you did. Best thing to do now is remove batteries and keep it in a warm dry place for about a week or more and try it again.
