Detector for Hire

New member
Hi, I'm still waiting for my silver umax. any day now. A just for fun question.....Have any of you ever heard of anyone or did metal detecting as a 2nd job?
I know you probley don't find enough to make any kind of real income, but have you ever seen anyone advertise themselves for hire? Maybe there's so many detectors out there that everyone knows someone to call if they lost a ring or something. I just started thinking about detecting a month ago so this is probley a silly question........I also wanted to thank everyone who replied to my first email and incouraged me to get out there and start swinging. It was great to see your finds....thanks for the nice welcome.

Hi Bluesky, Hope your new detector arrives soon! For me detecting is a hobby and the few times I've been asked to look for something, my time and effort were free. I see this as good relations for the hobby. I would never charge for my time and effort. Having seen the face of someone who has lost a valuable and seen it recovered is payment enough for me! :clapping: I think most on the forum would say the same. Let us know when that new Tesoro arrives!! :detecting: HH TonyTX

A VOTE here would probably net about 98% against any fee for MD recovery, Bluesky...

If I can make a nickel profit, I'd be there!

Some folks earn a living exercising horses, flying an aircraft, and even by pointing where to fish!

Can you imagine?

Hang out a shingle!
Maybe we'll see you on TV one day...

HH

I'm glad to offer my services, free of charge, to anyone who is nice to me.

That's my price. Just a little respect.

The enjoyment I get from the metal detecing is payment enough for me.

I think I may be getting closer to paying for my metal detectors.

That surpasses my expectations.

Just to take away some of the sting of paying for my machines is great.

HH,

There is a guy on the Bounter Hunter forum who claims

to metal detect for a living in Ozie Land. He says he works

long hours on beaches.

You notice he said work!!!

As in a job!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm afrade that might take the enjoyment out of it.

HH,

I would say that about the only way somebody could make any money in your description would be by renting them, and I don't think THAT would even fly...........

I just would never charge anyone for anything I do concerning detecting. I guess I'd even loan one of my detectors if the individual wanted to look on their on. I guess there are always caveats, one being they are responsible and will take care of the detector! I haven't been asked to help find a lost item for someone that often though... HH TonyTX

hello all, ive been offered money in the past to detect and find a lost wedding ring, found it in two minutes. i turned it down, but did slyly suggest on detecting the rest of the yard! a couple of silver rosies and a few wheats later, everyone was happy. made everyones day. there is a fella named nugget on the bounty hunter forum who lives near some big beaches in australia, who says he detects for a living. he also hits the goldfields on occasion. judging from the pics and posts hes made, hes been quite successful in that endeavor. impressive, i must say...hh,

Hi Gray Ghost, Now that sounds like a reasonable deal to me! :clapping: If you can get a little extra swing time at a good location that's good. I've heard of some of those guys making a living from finding stuff on the beach I guess! I think I'll just stick to shooting coins and a few relics every now and then!! :clapping::detecting::tesoro:
