Detector for Flying to Beaches?

New member
I'm lucky enough to occasionally get to the beaches of Hawaii on layovers with my job as an airline pilot. I've taken my White's MXT along with me and it does fine in the dry sand, is somewhat problematical in the wet, and I don't want to risk it in the water. I want to get in the water after the good stuff.

The detector I'm looking for: Spend less than $1K, effective in salt water, be waterproof to snorkel depths, good quality, easy to operate because I don't get to do it much, and lend itself to being broken down into a small backpack for roll onto the airplane transport with my pilot stuff.

I have a built-in bias towards White's because I have an MXT and GMT and have been very happy with them.

My detecting background: Mostly nugget shooting with the MXT and GMT both, some coin shooting with the MXT, and some dry-sand beach detecting with the MXT.

My head is spinning with all the research I've done on PI Dual Field Turbo Infinite Shark Surf Excaliburizers.

Recommendations?

Thanks in advance.

I would personally choose the Excal or the CZ-21 and get a short dive shaft to make it easier to travel with.

Garrett CSI-Pro works for me in many places.........not all........ but many.................and dead easy to use.

My CSI-Pro replaced the AT-Pro and AT-Gold.

Test items.......detects every one of them.

The AT Gold will NOT work in salt water (the guys at Garrett told me that), the AT Pro will work but will be chatty. If you can afford an Excal, get that but they are $$$$ . If the price of an Excal is out of reach, you can get a White's Dual Field PI or a Tesoro Sand Shark PI and a good (read GOOD scoop). That should run you right at your budget if you shop around a bit... Good luck and Happy Hunting, you lucky dawg!
