detector differences

findit

New member
seems like there is either alot of loyalty to a certain brand, or some just have multiple brands and use different machines for different situations. Take for example a tesoro vaquero vs a whites mxt, now i know there are obvious feature differences, some have more bells and whistles than others. But get down to it both operate at about same frequency, coil size, so is there really going to be a big difference
at what objects they pick up and the depths that they pick them up at
using them side by side in the same area. Not comparing them at the beach
but say on dry land.

The Vaquero is a great little detector, light, good depth, sensitive to small items and works grate with the small coil super tuned.:) I had one for a long time and found some really nice things with it. The MXT on the other hand is a different detector all together and over all a much better detector in my opinion in over all performance and features, it is also very sensitive to small items.;) It also cost more, it's a threshold based detector, it has a prospecting mode, relic mode, coin and jewelry mode, a meter that provides a ton of information as well as a better ground tracking system. Learning these different modes can be a big benefit with the MXT. They both find the heck out of things, it just depends on what you want. In my opinion its like comparing apples to oranges in some ways.

I personally prefer the MXT hands down..

Take Care, HH :detecting:

I gotta agree with Bill - its apples and oranges and not at all proper to compare them. You will find what you find with the detector you have at the time you find it.

I walk behind my partner all the time, finding stuff in his tracks. He has a high dollar Fisher and I have a little Tesoro Golden. Or he has his 1280X, stirring the water into a froth - and I am wading with my Golden (this happened the other day - he didnt like it.)

All detectors have strengths and weaknesses. Here's the simple rule:

Buy the most you can afford and then get to know it well - VERY WELL. If you miss something, oh well, it wont be because you failed to try. You cant take it with you, anyway, no matter how much you find.
