Detector Advice

I am in the market to upgrade my detector from a Whites Classic to a ???. I have mostly detected for coins in the past, but I am migrating more toward relics. I am considering the top models from Minelab, Tesaro, or Whites. Can I get some feedback on these, or other brands?

Minelab ex2,xs,soverign,excalibur. I say the excal, because its waterproof and is basically the same as a soverign, the 2 well, its the most popular and deserves to be,but for ease of use and great great depth the soverign. Used the xlt for years no comparison, alot of people dont know this but whites pays minelab for some of its tech on the dfx tech, its all up to you and your wallet,my next detector is going to be a Nexus. good luck and hope this doesnt start a battle of whats the best detector.:minelab::argue:lets hope that doesnt happen.

If I was in the market for a new relic detector, I would choose one of three-the Minelab Sovereign with the David Keith mod., the Tesoro Tejon, or the White's MXT. If price was not a concern, I would definitely go with the Sovereign.

I have a chance to buy a Garretts Master Hunter ADS III Metal Detector in great shape, real cheap...Do these older units have any value compared to new digital units?

Well, I couldn't swing $500 on a used sovereign or exaliber, so I ended up with an older unit but it in great shape and is the digital unit, not the analog. Let me know your thoughts on the CX III

Do some research and determine two things: 1. What are the most important features your going to need? (target ID, tone ID, ability to search in heavy iron, depth, swing weight, battery life, rechargeable batteries, warranty?) These will become most important to make a careful decision. 2. Price range? I would not spend less than $325 or so but you do not have to spend over $1,000 to get a good relic detector. Do your homework and you'll make a good choice. Good hunting, David @ Dixie
