detector advice for Mid TN area

cmag

New member
Hey folks,

I live in Franklin, Tennessee (Middle Tennessee). I'm returning to detecting after a 15 year hiatus. I need help choosing an appropriate detector. I will be using it primarily for relic hunting. I'm trying not to spend much over $500, new or used. I imagine I'll be hunting two or three times a month. Mostly urban areas undergoing some kind of transition (building, pushing dirt, etc), so it needs to be a detector that works well in trashy areas. Can someone kindly post a few models for me to take a look at?

Thanks,

Cooper

Cooper, I'm in the Nashville area and relic hunting is 99% of my detecting. We have several models that fit your needs. Just give me a call.
Good hunting, David

I would suggest the Tejon, MXT and or XLT. I relic hunt and love my Tejon though the XLT has done me very well.

I used a cibola on a 1793 battle field overseas and found hundreds of musket balls and other relics including two cannon balls while stationed there . Tons of bang for the buck, fine machine. HH

Well, I can pick up a used MXT or XLT for around $500 or a Vaqeuro with two coils for about $325. There don't seem to be as many used CIbolas or Tejons. I'm really leaning toward the Tesoros. Maybe I'm wrong, but I keep second guessing myself thinking the MXT is better and only $100 to $200 more than the Tesoros.

I don't know what part of mid-TN you're in, but here in N. Alabama the red clay is not real friendly to a fixed balance machine. I have a Cibola and it gets about 6-7" on average. I bought a used MXT that I don't have yet, but I expect it will do better in this soil.
