Detecting videos - What type of video camera ?

One of my winter projects is to set myself up for making detecting videos for the upcoming 2012 season. Was curious as to what type of video camera some of you guys are using? Don't want to buy cheap crap but don't want to spend a small fortune either. Any recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks ..

Dave

I guess I did'nt consider this, but if mentioning certain products here is a violation of forum rules, just send me a PM with your opinion or recommendation. Thanks..

Gopro hd hero helmet camera would free your hands or maybe a Kodak Playsport Zx3 would do just fine.

Go pro is not a great , it does not come with screen standard that will set you back another 80.00 plus the 400.00. Adding the screen with cut the battery life in half. I bought one and swiftly returned it. Also with a mount you may have to get a wide angle lens to make sure you in the shot if mounted somewhere like your head.

Another good choice would be the kodac play sport. Waterproof to 10 feet.

Have you ever tried the Tachyon helmet cams? You can get them with wide angle lenses, are waterproof to over 100 feet without a seperate case, and are much smaller than the GoPros. They don't have a screen, but they aren't meant for that. They are a point of view action camera. They only downside I have found with mine is the internal sound mic doesn't pick up much.

I have not used that one. But I have watched a ton of hunt videos. I really like the ones that are cut better, it takes more work. For example, shoot the sweep sounds ect, then the dig and recover from a tri pod, very stable and looks good. I just don't think you can get as good of results with a head cam. And by the way it is a pain to film the way I do and I slows me way down. But at the end of the day I love watching it back.

Thanks. I was using my IPod for making videos last year. But I left it out in my truck on just one cold winter night and that put an end to making videos.

I use a Kodak Playsport. Its a small easy to use handheld outdoor camera. About the size of an I phone. On button Push on and record. Great HD quality, tough, waterproof, memory card slips right into the computer. Can film around 4 hrs on one memory card i think. Rechargeable battery lasts a long itme. I love it. I dont have alot of time and hours to spend on editing so I dig and film and what you got is what you got. Only drawback in my opinion is that it does NOT film macro close ups. Thats what I use the camera portion of it for. You can check out my vids on youtube (Cajuncoinhunter) and they were ALL shot with the Kodak Playsport. I got a good package deal on mine at BestBuy. Reasonable price. Good luck. CCH

I use a canon 300HS, shoots full 1080p video, costs around $130 now(this is last years model).

Thanks for all of the input everyone !!

CajunCoinhunter, I do watch your vids and enjoy them ...thanks !
