Detecting under a Waterfall up in the Mountains (CZ20)

Pierre

New member
The past weekend our family went camping in the mountains near the small town of Porterville (South Africa).

The camping area is high up in the mountains near a small river. There are approximately 22 waterfalls in this river of which one is particularly large and has a swimming area at the bottom of the fall.

Yesterday morning I decided to detect this mountain pool and took the whole family with for a trek up the creek to the falls.

The first pic is of Mariana and Nina in front of our two tents. It was VERY warm with the temperature near to 40 degrees Celsius.

The following pic is of us climbing up the mountain: It was really hard going at some places and if you have a fear of heights I would not recommend this climb.

After about an hour we reached the large waterfall and I was happy to get into the refreshing water with my metal detector as soon as possible

What a fun trek, Pierre!

Were you able to locate any targets around the edges of the pool?

How about some heavy clear plastic (we call it visqueen) supported over a rope with corners of a large piece tied off to the sides?

Keep a pretty sharp pitch to the angle, and it may give you some relief from the deluge!

...Or you could even suspend the plastic against the face of the cliff, and waterfall, perhaps limiting the area the spray cam down upon.
Something like a 'sock' over the fill pipe used for water trucks???

Quite a climb, for you and your family up there... I'd like to see you come away with some gold!

Great family pics... They are PRICELESS.
