Detecting trip yesterday...

Went back to the old stage depot for about three hours yesterday. This is a photograph of the upper end. The graveyard is between my truck (white blob in the back ground through the trees) and that stand of small evergreens. The foundation of the old stage depot is behind me about 50 yards. A large area around the old stage depot had been dozed a year or two ago. Anywhere from 3" to a foot or more was taken off in some places, so who knows what lies in the middle of a 4 foot high dozed bank of dirt, intertwined with roots limbs, trees, and briars?

My first find was a flat button with gold gilding on the backside. I'm having to be a little more aggressive now to make finds, as I've already swung over all the easy places. Now I'm poking the coil up in thickets; dragging fallen pine and spruce trees off to one side, and detecting where they had laid. Made a few more finds that way.

A convex button; actually I found the identical twin to this button a couple weeks ago here.

Two thimbles today, which brings the thimble count to 3 at this location. Unfortunately, they're all tin. Where's the hand-engraved silver, with a date of 1798?

One of the many, many pottery shards laying around the area, always a good sign.

Digs for the day. That curved item on the left was a dirt-encrusted piece of metal I almost threw away. When I got it home, I scrubbed it with a brush, and holes started appearing in it, and a design started to take shape... part of an old shoe buckle? Hair piece?
There's still a few finds there to be had, but if there was an 18th century silver dollar laying around, I'd have found it by now...at least where the swinging is easy. There are woods close to the stage depot that had been logged about 15 years ago. It is now regrown back into a tangled thicket of pines, briars and brambles, practically impossible to swing in. Hmmm, where is that dozer?

I used to hunt a place that every time I'd start thinking there wasn't much left, I have a day where I'd find all kinds of stuff.... in the same places I didn't get any signal at all on other days.... go figure?
I'll bet there is a lot of good stuff still hiding in your site.
