Headed out this morning to an older school I havent hit and on the way I started thinking of my first merc I found by a tree at another school. When I got there I saw a group of three older trees by the building,so I figured "what the heck,I'll hit em first".It paid off with two silver dimes and eight wheats. With two of the wheats I got into a wrestling match with the tree for. They signaled good but when I pinpointed I could tell they were deep.About two inches down I hit two, three inch diameter roots that were spaced about 2 1/2 inches apart. This is where the wrestling match began, because as it turned out two wheats came out of the hole about four inches directly under one of the roots,a 1939 and a 1918.In the pic if you look close you can see one wheat dislodged under the root.Six other wheats came out of the ground from around the trees, plus a '43 Merc and a '57 Rosie, the Merc is in beautiful condition with one of the most dished front sides Ive ever seen on one of these dimes.
Id like to thank Pat in On for the post "+53 +54 VDI & silver dimes",because its the exact way both these silver dimes signaled.Only by scrubbing the grass firmly with the coil was I able to get the dimes to signal an occassional +78.Both dimes were at the seven inch depth in very dry soil. Thanks again Pat for the heads up!

. I hit four silver dimes over the weekend all over six inches. A great improvement in my silver finds, with all starting in the +53 +54 range and like you say if you scrub around you might get a reading in the 70
I like the way silver comes out of the ground much better! I wish we'd get some rain to help out,I havent even finished hitting the north side of the building yet.I hit the site where I found my 1887 V nickel sunday and completely struck out for the first time there. The ground is like concrete,I wish the construction company would plow the ground up some more.
