Detecting tip for vacation season .....

Any time you plan on a trip where you'll be staying at a hotel or motel, plan on packing your pin pointer in the suitcase regardless of if the trip would involve metal detecting.

Most motels / hotels use plastic tubular drain P-trap assemblies. Before checking out of the room, be sure to "scan" the P-trap for lost jewelry. Obviously, most times you won't find anything ... but you just never know. Once I found an engagement ring and have found several ear rings.

This tip has saved the day at our house a couple times over the years when my three daughters thought they may have dropped a piece of jewelry down the lav drain. Sure beats taking apart the drain to find nothing and makes it more fun to take it apart when you actually have a signal.

This "off the wall" tip has been brought to you by, hopefully, your favorite hardware dealer.

Years ago the parents of a very cute three year old girl brought her into the store one Saturday to ask if we "could scan her with one of our geiger counters".

Seems they suspected she may have swallowed at least one coin. They didn't want to expose her needlessly to an X-ray so wondered if we could help.

We asked her to get up on a plastic lawn chair while I checked her out with an XLT. We found she did in fact swallow a penny and based on it's location and depth, figured the parents had at least one or two more days of "treasure hunting" to look forward to until the situation "passed". Don't ya just love this hobby?

My daughter decided To Eat A Quarter. She came to us scarred because she swallowed the quarter--I got my detector out and it showed up right away--We believed her then and we went to the doctor--He X rayed her THEN he believed that detectors did work SO I kept tract of it (3-4 days) then went back did the X Ray again and it was gone--That was the only time I ever lost a Quarter after getting a great signal and pinpointing it--I decided not to go Out House Digging as it was just two dam fresh--That gets her goat yet BUT not near as bad as her Birth Mark Story does!

My son's girlfriend asked me to scan her belly button piercing one day at the beach. Got the first signal a little south of her navel.
