Detecting THROUGH snow?

Teddybear

New member
Can my Ace 350 detect through 3 inches of snow?...........Or do you have to clear it away...........
Thanks Dave

It will still pick up targets, just shallow ones will be in the snow and deeper ones in the dirt.

Ok.......Thanks I'm new to this and never did it..............Thats good I'll be back out sooner than I thought.....looks like we got about 8-10 inches.
Thanks Dave

Yes but aren't you supposed to be an inch or two above ground.......I'm sure you all right..........Just trying to understand and clarify..It's a relief to me because I don't intend for all of this to melt before I can get back out!!!!

Just ,like John stated it's like air, So if you have 8 to 10" down you will be detecting 8 to 10" worth of snow. Pending on your machine you will be luck if you scratch the surface of the ground.

I have detected in snow before and you lose ground depth. What my problem is the ground is frozen solid. Can't get any digging equipment through it with out tearing it up......I have to wait till spring.

I instead do my history researching looking for other places to detect in the spring.....

Regards

Scott

HMMMM Well I know of a lot of gravel lots that they will have to plow..I'll be there later this am...
Thanks guys
Dave

This is my first year metal detecting, and have been out a bit in the snow...I'm sure you guys who have done it a lot already know this trick...i put the coil in one of those cheap plastic bags from the grocery store, and just tie a knot in it to the shaft, to keep the snow from building up on the coil...works great..

Ive been hitting gravel lots that have been
mashed down by vehicles ... the digging
is pretty easy just kick loose teh gravel and
VIOLIN...Most times the coins arent that deep

THINK SPRING
