ok, ive used old tennis shoes with and without socks, open and close toed sandles with and without socks. i have seen the scuba hi top booties and wonder if they work??
im looking for something that will not allow sand in and be comfortable for 4-6 hours of in and out of the water detecting.

Most diving boots or shoes work fine. If at all possible try them on and you may want the Ray guards. The pair I like the most are the least expensive pair I have. HH :minelab:

I personally use the NRS cross 4 wetshoe which keep the sand and grit out while keeping the feet warm and safe while digging in the surf.
I like the side zipper and the fact they make a size 15 which fits me perfect. I get about 2 yrs out of a pair and since they are made out of neoprene, same stuff as a wet suite all you need to do is rinse real well in fresh water after a hunt and they will be good to go. The price is right so I keep 2 pair and swap them out each day to make sure I have a dry pair each day. The NRS-Cross-4-Wetshoes are not water proof so while wading your feet do get wet, but do stay warm.

For a couple of years I've been using what biglry uses. They keep most of the sand out, not all; and generally work pretty well for me. I am thinking of adding a pair of similar boots that have a thicker, cleated sole with a little bit of raise in the heal so that the heal is a little higher than the ball of the foot. I get some heal pain on longer sessions of wet sand work and think the raised heel and a little more support may help.

Those NRS wet shoes would be my first choice  if and this is a BIG IF, they were made in a size 15 which is what I have for a foundation to keep my 6'5" frame upright.:wiggle:

Discovered these "surf boots" early last season, they are great at keeping the sand out and more comfortable than the heavier soled diving boots I had been using. Important to get the size right, don't want them to fit loose. Can be a pain to get on/off when wet, nice to have a second dry pair to alternate. I usually use the air compressor to help them on/off real quick. Those NRS ones look nice too.
