Detecting & Sensitivity

Remember just because you have a detector that has sensitivity settings that go high....Does not mean you can use all of it.

In fact very few places will allow for full sensitivity. Stability is the key for using Sens. Run as high as you can and still be stable.

Think of it this way....You have a high end music player..How high can you turn the volume before it starts to distort......... Very few players Speakers will support full volume....

Saturation causes loss of the full potential............... !!! No different on a detector ..................

Another way of looking at sensitivity is to try driving in heavy fog or heavy snowfall with your highbeams on. Too much is'nt always better ..

Right on Elton & McDave I agree with your statement(s) I experienced this very thing last summer. I had locked onto a target in manual sensitivity (set approx 3pm on the dial) (Own a Sov GT) I then cranked it up to 12pm ( still a good solid signal ) I then turned it up even more to approx the 9am setting and the target actually started breaking up and sounded erratic like a piece of iron. In some situations, less is more. - Jim

Good point Elton. I run my ace350 half way most of the time and it works good for me!:garrett:

I know all detectors are a little different but my F2 defaults to 1 step below full sensitivity. Most of the threads I read about the F2 people say the first thing they do when they turn it on is to bump the sensitivity one notch up to full. I am a newbie to this so what results will I see if my sensitivity is too high, how will it react? Thanks

Jumpy Id's more than normal. Popping cracking sounds maybe......Just in general not smooth and stable....

I use my sniper coil in iron/trash hell at 2 bars sensitivity and constantly pull out the coins. It kinda makes sense, anyway. The hard iron particled ground won't let items sink at all and are right on the surface. That's why so many complain about the Ace's noisiness- it's overreacting to the surface junk.

I like running the sens down about half way, I get plenty of depth for the hunting I do, and its very comfortable to sweep through all sorts of trash without all that noise, if you like high sensitivity and lots of chatter, go play bingo on ladies night!

My experience with all the different machine I have had, is that past around 75% sensitivity does not gain much depth if any.. It does however become more SENSITIVE to smaller targets..

Quote...........if you like high sensitivity and lots of chatter, go play bingo on ladies night!

LOL........... Your right of course...........
