Detecting on top of parking structure

Spud

New member
I was wondering if anyone can help with settings on V3i when detecting on top of parking structure. This is 35 years old park that have seen many parties and concerts and it is on top of concrete parking structure. Soil and grass area is anywhere from 8" to 15" deep. i am picking up steel in concrete under the soil. is there a way around this?

Thanks

You will probably have to turn Gain and Sensitivity down....WAY down.

Accept everything and turn unwanted signals to Zero for sound.
Run a low filter and recovery around 40
Sweep real slow and listen for any chirps that might be a coin. Then focus on this spot and sweep back and forth a couple inches or so until you can pinpoint.
This is what I do at the local drive in that is loaded with trash.
Seems to work the best. I wouldn't say this is the same but maybe close.
Best bet would be to get some rebar and bury it deeper then bury a coin 5 inches and play with settings until you get a good feel.
Or better yet. Find a known area at this place that has rebar and bury a dime then go from there.

Believe it or not but during our church renovation project I was asked to find rebar inside of the utility tunnels concrete roofs inside the sanctuary. The concrete was about 5" thick and poured on top of corrogated steel sheeting. At even the lowest detector settings, the machine would overload on the steel sheeting. However, with the coil raised 2 or 3 inches, the overload ceased and I could detect the rebar. I ended up tapeing a couple of water bottles to the coil so I could rest the coil on the floor and sweep and still keep the coil at a uniform height above the overload zone. Worked like a champ. Found and id'ed all the rebar and the electrical conduits.

Point of the story, turn down the sensitivity and raise the coil.

Another thing that can help is to put on the 6x10, and select the prospecting mode and listen for the zipzip. The iron will give a longer audio response, while the coins and such will give a much smaller and faster zip zip response.

Good luck,
Mike

You might use Correlate and a little Bottle Cap Reject with whats been suggested. You should be able to weave through the mess. Having a little lower dc (for pinpoint) could really help. Sounds like you could really have a good spot there and good luck!
