Detecting moving targets...

Okay, you all know metal detecting is out of the question for us up north. But, there is still ways to enjoy a nice day out looking for some keepers.
Today we went to the same place we hunt in the summer times, but this time we were looking for "moving targets"

So we parked my "detectmobile" right over where there used to be at least 6 feet of water...

Then Luke took the special device he borrowed from his brother in law... and dug a few holes and "scooped" out the snow

We then installed the "base camp" a few folding chairs, a windbreaker, altough in the morning it was nice and sunny. A thermos filled with hot cocoa and the fishing gears...

Altough you dont see them in the picture, but there was a whole village of ice fishing cabbins near us! But the fish weren't biting at all, so we moved to the national park not too far from where an helicopter crashed yesterday. We didn't saw it, but the whole machine is still on the ice. Fortunatly nobody was killed, but they were seriously injuried.

Okay, back to fishing... we were picking them by the ton... sometimes the fish were so big, we couldn't pass them thru the 6 inch hole we dug in the ice crust (12 inches thick).

Here is a view of the first ones we got... after that i was just too darn busy catching them, i didn't took any picture !

When darkness started to show up, it was time to drive back home (20 minutes from home). We splitted the finds between us and i've cleaned and prepared the biggest one for supper.

Here it is, cooked and spiced to perfection. I've also made a pot of vegetables and rice. Hum hum hum... it was delicious !

Okay... since this was a fishing story, i was intitled to some "exageration" to a very limited point. But if you insist on having the whole truth... witch makes this a mutch less interresting story... here it goes...

All of the above is true... right up to the helicopter story. I might have exagerated about getting any fish. In fact, it was really dead out there and we didn't had a single bite! There are days like this. The fish on the pics were caught by the other people near us :) and the one that i did for supper... well it was a great deal at the supermarket :)

As i said... international laws allow any fishing stories to be beautifyed to a certain point, providing the basic facts are true... well we went fishing for sure :)
