detecting lead

First off, Thanks Ric and Charlie for the help. I have another question. I am not getting the response to lead that I want. (as you know, with the xlt or a Fisher, lead will give a good sound in relationship to the size of the object) I find I am passing over lead signals, especially large pieces of lead, with the minelab, despite having the discrimination set in iron mask, -10. As I'm hoping to use the explorer in England, where many artifacts and tokens are lead, is there a good relic setting which will give a good solid and unbroken signal on this metal, despite the shape of the object, while still detecting small brass, silver, and gold? Again, the big problem I'm having with the minelab is being able to get an idea of the dimention of not only lead, but other non-ferous metals which are irregular in shape, without stopping at every blip to switch to pinpoint mode. ( many of the irregular objects are only giving me a signal in one direction, and are very much like iron signals, unlike the fisher or whites which will give me a loud tone on a big object). Thanks for the help, John I. in N.J.

John,In the open hardwoods clean of trashThe bullets (even small buckshot) jump up on the screen.Me and the wife searched what was supposed to have been an old (1800's) store site and thats all we found were cases and bullets,,musta been a ruff place, I found a small lead wedge in a lady's yard monday.approximately 1/2 of a 2inch square,1/4 inch thick. It was 4 inches and you would have thought it was a fire plug.Usually skip loud big targets but this one plotted wierd its in the back of my truck,,If it will quit raining I'll scan it and tell you about where it hit..I assume lead, could be babbit...cs..The little bullets are in clean areas,,any hit in iron mask catches ones attention.I found a 30'06 bullet i am certain I fired from a shooting house by the lineup..have fun cs

I have no problem with lead either.. it has a very distinct tone on the medium to large pieces.. it does give a bit of a waverying tone on the oddball shaped pieces but dont have a problem locking on even the tiniest pieces... are you running in normal audio? make sure when you get those blips you hover the coil right anove the target with little side to side motion.. it will lock on

Thanks, I'm finding the sm,all stuff too deep with no problem, even buckshhot fairly deep. It's the large lead orcopper objects that are giving me troubel. No both ways signal, stuff like that. I might still be too used to the whites or the fisher
