Detecting In Texas Questions

I live in Oregon but will be traveling to Texas for business. I am curious what the state laws (if any) say about metal detecting on public property ie. Schools, parts, etc. If there is anyone from Texas that could help me out i would really appreciate it.
Thanks
Mark

State Parks & National Seashore are off limits as well as historical sites like the Alamo and La Bahia in Goliad where they will throw you in jail and throw away the key. Most other places are open. Private property is off limits till you get permission. All public beaches are open as is most public parks & schools. There are a few citys that you have to get a permit...I believe San Antonio & Austin. Is there a particular area that you'll be in?

this question on the Depot's Tesoro forum. The owner of the site lives in Texas and could answer this. Kelley sometimes visits this site, and might have a clue too.
