DETECTING IN PARKS

Got kicked off a park today. There were no signs saying no metal detecting.A van with some men from the council came over and said i wasn't allowed to detect in here and wanted my name and address.I offered to show them the very small flaps i had made, but they wernt interested.Tried to take a photo of me.I wouldn't give my name and address.I cant believe there are little Hitlers out there picking on people like me who are just detecting for pleasure. You cant do anything nowadays.

Was it a public park? You would think they would have better things to do with there time.Did they have ID on them to prove who they were? I'm so sorry this happened to you i have no ideal what this world is coming to. What state and city this happen in? If they were legit shame on those guys.Kudos to you for not getting into a altercation with those guys. Do they want to stop you from using all parks in the city or just (that) particular park ? Hmmm ?

:usaflag:Yes...I would have insisted for their names and addresses also. And it does pay to do a little research. I received permission in advance for all the parks and various hunting sites I visit..even though the parks did not have "No Detecting" signs.

Hi,yes it was a .public park,i live in the UK.With the council logo. could tell they were from the council because the van was marked up with the council logo.I have been in other parks and been seen by wardens on motorbikes and had no bother.I don't no the laws about detecting in parks.there's no sign up saying you cant.I told him there was no signs,he just said we cant put signs up for everything.

I am a very reasonable person and I respect the authority of the police and city/county council and all that. Before I would have shown him/her my identification, they would have had to show me theirs. That's not being unreasonable or disrespectful either. They could have just been some maintenance people in a joy ride on a city vehicle. I hope you follow up on that and contact your public representative about this. The parks belong to the public, it's their taxes that cause them to exist in the first place. If it was posted and a law, that would be different. challenge them in public and stand up for your rights. Now if it was some bonehead digging large holes and not filling them in, they would have been correct in refusing to let you destroy the park, but if you were being considerate and digging small holes and not making a mess, you should have been allowed to metal detect to your heart's content. They should not use the destruction of the park by others as an excuse to ban someone who is treating the park with respect and not making a nuisance of themselves.

I thought the Nazis lost the war.Since it wasn't posted I would have asked to see the law or ordinance that forbid me to detect there and if these guys werem't cops with law enforcement authority and couldn't produce the law I would have told them to buzz off as it was a public park.. Sound s to me like a couple of yokels with a $1.98 worth of authority over stepping their bounds.

Hi Bill, its well annoying.you cant do nothing nowadays without a little Hitler stopping you.I offered to dig a hole and show them how small it was.i always dig a flap and push it back down and jump on it.But they wernt interested.Does anyone know what the law is regarding detecting in parks when a no metal detecting sign is not displayed. They said they cant put signs up for everything. The funny thing was.HITLER kept asking for my name and address,i should of said Donald duck

The park should be posted if no detecting is allowed. I would have told then to take a hike. And unless they had a badge and were law officers you don't have to tell them squat, especially your name and address..You could have called a real cop and resolved it right there.

Almost all councils in the UK have a standard template of bylaws and in the small print it does say no metal detecting in or around parks. - however most council employees (and police who I have spoken to) are unaware that these bylaws exist. I believe it would only be the police who have the power to move you on so next time you are challenged I would advise those officials they do not have the authority to move you on - Police approached me on my local park on a different matter and they were more than happy for me to be there with my detector.

Oh... you're in the UK

Dress up like a muslim and they will probably leave you alone...
