:detecting:A Few More Specimens

Gus in idaho

New member
I forget some times that not all of the members of this forum view the other forums I post on from time to time.
I have received a couple PM's from members here, asking if I had any further luck in finding specimens.
Here is a photo of a few more I found in 2009.
GPX-4500 with a 12x15 DD Commander coil.
Hopefully 2010 will bring in a few more, I wish the best of luck to all of you this year.

very nice!!! How would you say the Commander coils compare to similar sized NF and CT coils...Not trying to satrt the old coil-wars...just your opinion, if you care to offer it...

thanks

Hi Fred,
It's a very good question. But one I cannot fairly answer. I only own 2 commander coils, a 5x9 and a 12x15. Both of them are DD coils.
All of my Nugget-Finder, and Coil-Tek coils are mono's.
I have been wanting to try out a Nugget-Finder DD to compare.
I would have to say the Commander coils have surprised me though:clapping:

Congrats Gus thoses are some big beauties!
Good luck when you get back at it this spring.

Gooday Gus, Those are some serious specimens! I would be obliged if you could share with me the settings you used for the 4500 and the DD coils, at the moment I am having great trouble getting my brain around the big mono coils, maybe it's old age! until I changed to the 4500 I found all of my gold with DD's so it can't be the coils causing the worries, I'm using my proven techniques so it ain't me!. Hot as blazes in the Golden Triangle at the moment and the ground is so hard and unresponsive. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Regards Hotrocks

Hi Hotrocks,
Believe it or not, I run my DD coils in pretty much the same settings I run my mono's in, with the exception of Iron discrimination on about 7 and DD mode.
My ground conditions will be a lot different than yours, so my actual settings might not do you any good.
I run in Special; Extra-Sensitive. You are probably runing in Enhanced?
My advice would be keep all your settings as is, except for the top 2 mentioned. The 4500 is amazing.
Best of luck to. I hope you snag a Bloody Rippa!

Hey Gus, Those are some righteous specimens. I found one so far of a similar size and still remember the feeling of disbelief when it was in my hand. Congratulations.

Hotrock, I also run a 4500 and at times have trouble ground balancing while running in enhance. Could this be the cause of your trouble with the Mono's? There are some threads pertaining to proper GB'ing while in enhance on the more popular Aussie forums. Good luck on getting on top of the problem.

L8tr,
Merton
