Some is offering me an old Detech Penetrator S 45 cm coil for the Souvereign GT.

I was wondering if this is a good coil for the beach.

Or can I better stick to the WOT coil. ???

Thanks,

I have one of the Detech Excelerator coils, works freakin' GREAT up next to the rental chairs. Not as deep as the 10 inch Tornado but still gets arout 5 to 7 inches. I hit a row of chairs one evening with the 10 inch on and then the next morning I went back with the Excelerator on, did the same row of chairs and got another 3.76 in clad and a 925 ring I missed the night before! If the Penetrator is anything like the Excelerator, it should be a good one to have.

i also have that 5 inch detech coil.... works pretty good in trashy areas that have alot of nails....other than that i havent found it to be better than the wot or 10 inch....

I'm just saying that I've found my Detech coil to be a good one, and would think that any Detech coil in any size would be a good one... not that I feel it's better than a WOT or a 10"

There were two versions of the Excelerators from what I hear. Early ones I think were called Penetrators and not as good as the later (and current) Excelerators. BUT, I think they also call the Excelerators "Penetrators" in the UK, so I don't know what's up with that coil. It's either an old pre-Excelerator that was said not to be as good, or it might be a new Excelerator called a Penetrator in the UK.

If you surf the coil sticky thread you'll find a few thread links on these Penetrators/Excelerators. Nobody seems to say much about them so I suspect that might speak volumes, but I do remember a guy (think I posted a thread link in the coil sticky) saying the 12.25 or 12.5" Excelerator was as good to him as the S-12 and just as light if I remember right.

Personaly since I rarely have been able to dig up any field reports on the Excelerators, I think I'd pass on owning one myself. They have been around for much longer years than the SEFs and yet look at the different in messager traffic.

The 5" and 6" solid Excelerators are a different story though. The 6" version in particular appears to be the top pick for super heavy trash among FBS guys, yet still getting outstanding depth. I think they might have made the 6" for the BBS units a few years ago and maybe they still do in the UK? All these coils are made by Detech- SEFs, Ultimate, Excelerators/Penetrators, etc.

I just purchased an Excelerator S 45cm coil with the six pin plug.Does anyone know for sure that this coil is for the BBS Minelab Sovereign Detectors? Not much information available and short of plugging it in is there any other way of making sure it is correct? My biggest fear is releasing the "magic smoke" from my detector! Thanks!

I compared the resistances between pins 1&2 and 3&4 to my Coiltek wot coil and they were pretty close.I plugged the coil in to my XS and it works like a charm.Very sensitive coil,so apparently the Excellerator S and the Penetrator S have the same applications. Thanks!
