Detech 13" Ultimate coil.

Are any of you guys and gals using the Detech 13" Ultimate coil on your Sovereign or Excalibur? If so, what do you think about it's performance? Does it perform any better than the 10" Slimline/Tornado coil?

I'm looking for a coil that is larger than the 8" coil on my Excalibur and will be swapping the coil between the Excalibur and a Sovereign.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

in the dry sand the 13" is excellent and out performs the standard 10. Where it changes is near the salt water. You may have to adjust your sensitivity depending on your location. That decreases the depth and brings it more in line with the 10" depth. The 13" like the WOT is a bit to swing in the deep water but does gain depth over the 10" but you will have to adjust it to the salt content. Its easier to PP with than the WOT thou. Some has said its not waterproof, ive not found that to be true, but then i always put teflon tap under the coil nut on any coil i use in the water. Dealing with bigger coils out there get ready to wear the lower rod and change those rubbers more too.

Thanks for the reply, Dew. I wasn't aware that the coil is, supposedly, not waterproof! I'm glad that you mentioned it.

I'm looking at the NEL, HUNTER 12.5"x8.5", too. It's advertised as being waterproof and I like the size of it.

It's 100% water proof but just over sensitive to the surroundings...killer depth on the wetsand and dry. In the water, like dew said you have to cut back the sensitivity which cuts back the depth...that's why I swear by the stock coils... Hunting in PP I really don't believe any coil can beat them out, I would even dare to say almost as deep as a PI in some location's..with the right setup.

You have to water the wording on some coils....... manufactures use the term waterproof but read on ..... they mean water resistant. The slimline coils on the first Explorers were just tuned to sensitive and chattered terribly. Here in Fl, like Joe said we get some real depth in PP. Im with you Joe on the standard coil for the most part is the better choice in the water. Those large coils are tuff to PP with especially if you are chasing a penny.
