Destin report

Well, I finally made it to Destin again, this year with the Excal 2. So far not so good, I haven't even been able to turn it on yet due to the water conditions. Look at the pic and you will see that there are NO people in the water due to it being so rough, and it is full of jellyfish. Everyone that goes out heads right back to the beach for ice to put on the stings. I tried to get out there but couldn't even come close to being able to work the water. If it doesn't get any better I will try the dry sand this evening when it gets cooler. I'll keep ya posted. At least there is some scenery!! HH Joe

From the Picture it doesn't Soo Bad but it could be that the were between sets...

And I'm sure the Recent Weather doesn't help out either...

On the East Coast Fl I guess where used to those lil waves...:yikes: Hunt the shallows up to Knee deep then all that
nice wet sand up to the High tide line..

Good Luck.... Hopefully your next post will be filled with pictures of all the gold that you found...

Safe & HH

You said... "Hunt the shallows up to Knee deep then all that nice wet sand up to the High tide line.." I will give it my best shot, even knee deep pushes you a foot inland and pulls you that far back out, all the while the sand is disappearing under your feet, and the little stinging ^$$@*(^$(@^ are working your legs over... might have to see if I can go shopping later on for a wet suit bottom... Thanks for the moral booster mtpockets.. I am eating a sandwich now, will be back out there shortly... HH Joe

Jellies don't help either..... We had a bunch in the water the other day @ Cocoa Bch....in the water washed up on shore... But I don't think
they were the stinging kind... Cause I brushed up against several..

They had no tentacles. looked like Clear Blobs...

I know on the East Coast of Fl at times it hard to work the coil in knee to ankle deep water... The undertow makes it miserable. Definitely
strains your arm some...

1 mil full wetsuit. If the jellyfish are plentiful, they will wrap around your arms also in deeper water. A Lycra suit works also and is thinner and cooler, but the 1 mil takes the edge off slightly cold water and the Lycra won't. Don't forget about your hands either. Good luck.

Thank you John!! I live in Memphis ( big surprise ) and something I could use in the cooler water this fall would be great! I had to come up and do the dinner thing, but following Mt's advice I started working the shallow water to wet sand and have turned up a couple pennies and a toe ring. I found a spot further down the beach where the bank is being eroded down 2 feet or so, so I figure that is getting me 2 feet closer to the goodies! ( that is where the pennies and ring was ). I will make a final post this evening with pix. I hope you guys don't mind a "Daily Destin Report" while I am here. I will be leaving Monday afternoon, if you get tired of hearing from me let me know. The only problem I have had so far was the spongy part of one side of the headphones came off, luckily someone alerted me to it floating away before I noticed it by putting them on. Still learning the Excal 2.... HH Joe

Its 11:08 PM and I just got in from the beach. Well, to sum things up for the day, I beat last years totals for the whole WEEK I was here using a Tiger Shark... Last year $.33 CENTS for the week, today with the Excal2 $.76 cents, a toe ring (junk) an ear ring ( .925 ) and the aluminum tabs that are giving me fits. I was able to tell most of the bottle tops, but a few of them still got me, they didn't give that iron sound at the beginning or end of the signal. I found the ear ring and the caps in the dry sand. Stay tuned for tomorrow's report.... HH Joe

I water hunt Destin and along the Emerald Coast from Pensacola South. Conditions along the coast have been bad all summer. Those waves don't look very big, however if you get out waist deep or deeper they will smack you silly. The jellyfish have been really bad . These are the brown ones with the long trailing stingers. You can wear a farmerjohn but they will get you on your arms. The water the past couple of weeks has been full of green weed. When you get a hit up comes the scoop full of weed and sand. While your concentrating on diggin out the good stuff - waaap- wave in the face. bap bap - jellyfish stings. Its really interesting when the stingers break off and are hanging on your scoop.
Our beaches have very little wet sand area.. The current travels parallel to the beach . This creates a fairly deep step in drop-off close to shore and results in water overflows and riptides. If you come here and hunt in the water be very very careful. We lose people every year, almost always tourists.. Great place to water detect when the conditions are right.
Bring some, leave some , take some (hopefully not to much)
