Desion to be made

I am looking at getting a new (to me) detector. I was looking at a used Tesoro cortes when I came across two other choices a 1 year old XLT and also a Minelab Explorer XS. I believe I am getting more confused as I go. The Cortes is only a couple months old and the Exporer is around 7 years old. The XLT is about $150.00 more than the other two. What should I do. I am from NW Ohio and will be hunting mainly old farm land, parks, fair grounds and fresh water beaches. I could also be going to N Carolina for a weeks vacation on the ocean but do not feel that I would base my decision on 1 week.

Thanks
Shortcut

You don't tell us whether you have any other detectors, which wouldn't make any difference unless you already have one of the brands mentioned and desire to have coil compatibility. Age wise, I'd lean to the Cortes or the XLT, but then again I have a DeLeon which is similar to the Cortes and an MXT which makes me a bit prejudiced in relation to Tesoro and/or Whites. I like both and have made good finds with both - if weight or warranty is a factor for you, go with the Tesoro. The XLT would probably be the best choice out of the three you've mentioned for value plus capability. I've not used the Minelab so won't comment there, but just the age alone would make it the last choice if it were me. My two bits.

i pretty much have the same suggestions as the others. the minelab is a little to old and i wouldn't go there. (i think explorers are one of the best) the xlt would probably be your best choice. i have tesoro's myself and the cortes is a very good machine. if you have the extra 150 dollars the xlt has more features and you would be very happy with it. go with the xlt.

get the Tesoro the XLT is over rated, if your going the white way your better off with the MXT, just my opinion.

Thank you for your help I have just joined the Tesero family and ordered the Cortes. Looking forward to trying it out.

Thanks again!

Welcome aboard. I haven't used a Cortes but happily enjoy all four Tesoros I have. I the order of acquisition they are: Cibola, Tejon, Sand Shark and Compadre.

All fine machines, Shortcut.
I'm pleased to see that you decided upon the Cortes.
From what you had said, it was the newest, and maybe the least expensive of the lot???
Definite selling points.

I'm so pleased with my Tesoro machines I don't hardly give a second thought to the others.
...Might even sell them, this summer, but they are 'different' than my Tesoros and I'd miss 'em.

Bottom line is, should you ever need it, Tesoro repair policy just can't be beat.
It's a major selling point, in my book.

We look forward to seeing many great posts of your finds!
