How much depth do you think is sacrificed on dime sized targets switching from the stock coil to the 8 or 7.5?

Hey LC,
I can't answer that question directly. But I can tell you about the depths I've found stuff with the 7.5" Minelab coil. I have found heavily corroded pennies at a measured depth of 9 inches in clean ground. I have found barber dimes at measured depths of 8 inches and those dimes were oriented about 60 degrees from the horizontal. The barber dimes were in clean ground as well. These signals were faint and iffy but definately made me want to dig. I was using iron mask -10, manual SEN=27, and Mike Moutray settings in a clean area.

Thanks for taking the time Mike. I'm thinking of getting the 7.5 or 8'' coil due to the multiple targets I am picking up with the stock coil.I have a 5'' that came with a package deal and it gets 5.5 to 6'' on a test garden thin Barber dime. Very impressive since that was all I was getting with my XLT before I bought the Explorer 2. I'll be ready to buy the coil in a week or so.
Thanks again...LC

I'ed say an inch or two... my deepest dime with the stock was around 11 inches, dont think I have gotten any over 9 inches with the 8 inch coils.. tough to say unless you get over one, but there is no doubt the stock goes deeper.. the thing is the stock can miss some shallower ones, that the 8 inch can get because of trash or iron.. they all have there purpose and everyone should have at least one smaller coil

I find I can often run the smaller coil at a higher sensitivity than the stock and this helps make the depth about the same. Which coil to use at any given sight is often more a matter of ground coverage versus trash seperation then detecting depth.
