Question; being new to the hobby, less than 2 years, all them litature i have seen recommends holding bottom of coil 1 to 1 1/2" off ground. My question. Is distant to target measure from bottom of coil to target or from gound level to target? My GTAx 550 will air test on a dime approximate 5". Does this mean actual working depth is 5" or 4 to3 1/2" Any reply's would be greatly appreciated. Sorry for the long post.Good hunting to everyone

Distance is from bottom of the coil to the target. Your 550 should be doing better than that.

Bill thanks for the reply. forgot to mention I am using a 4.5" coil as the area has a lot of trash. mainly finding base of broken lite bulbs, elect. wire, copper flair nuts, pulltabs. etc. again thanks for the reply.
