Depth With A Cortes

Can anyone give me an idea of how deep coin size objects can be detected with a Cortes ? I'm thinking about getting one. Either Cortes or maybe a Fisher CZ 70 Pro. Haven't decided.

I am the proud owner of a Cortes and I have hit pennies at 15 inches, maybe a litter deeper my pinpointer was out of site in the hole. I think the name of the PinPointer is automax. The Penny was that deep using a stock coil. The soil here is very soft, but I did get the hit through lots of grass. I am pleased with it and recomend it.

Having said that I would not joke about your condition. That must be pure hell on the bad days and perhaps not much better on the good. Hang in there Ronnie! What ever is was it must have been one hell of an accident.

I air tested a Cortes today and i only got about 8 inches on a penney in all metal mode. About the same on a dime. Nickel got maybe 9". That's with sensitivity cranked wide open.

That could have happened, the hole was deep though. I didnt think of that. The ground here is so soft in some areas its full of air you dont even need a tool to dig in some areas. Fluffy dirt? I dont know

Tesoro makes good detectors but don't think they've made one yet that will get an inground penny at 15 inches . That almost ranks with the 22 inch dime a Shadow user posted, and the 28-30 inch quarters with a CZ a dealer posted. My Tesoro's, CZ's, Shadow's and the numerous other detectors I've had over the years must have all been sub par if those numbers are accurate .

Mike I got a Cortes on Monday of this week, I have tested it in my test garden and it will easily detect and properly ID a dime at 7", the soil here is heavily mineralized. I had the sensitivity set at 8, and tried lowering it to see where it lost the dime, I dropped it to 4 before it lost the dime. I also have a nickel buried at 9" and the Cortes will not detect the nickel, even in all metal or with sens. maxed, and the disc. set at iron. Overall I am very happy with the Cortes. HH
