depth with 5" dd coil on Gold Bug

I've had my Gold But Pro DP for just on a month, with 2 weeks of that time being used at saltwater beaches using the 11"DD coil. I was impressed with the depth achieved by the GB, particularly in all metal mode. Yesterday, I was using the Gold Bug at a site near home (no beaches, sadly) and had the 5" DD coil fitted. The bettery level was down to 1 segment, so I wasn't expecting to get that much depth. Got a signal, probed, and the probe hit the coin at 3" (measured) below the surgace of the ground (about 4" below the surface of the grass). My first thought was that I had just hit a small rock, but when I dug the plug, a $2 (Aussie)coin as at the botton of the plug.. Our $2 coin is 20mm in diameter, so, not what I would call a large coin. I was impressed with this depth with the battery "on its last legs". In disc mode, Sens at about 82. HH

That Little coil is a MONSTER !!!

It sure is, Ken. I was genuinely surprised at the depth that it hit this coin, with a digital reading that was consistent with the type of coin it turned out to be. I wont be afraid to use the little coil again, although the 11" DD is my coil of choice for the beach.

many other open areas with fewer targets (less masking), but the 5" DD stays on my G2 almost all the time. While it's not the deepest-seeking Teknetics/Fisher that uses these coils on silver and other higher-conductive coins, it still does very good in many applications. I really like the performance of the 5" DD.

By the way, I was given one of your Aussie $3 coins and have it in some of my test samples for folks to sample. it's a good thickness, decent0sized coins that I wish our country would copy. Just give us a better $1 coin, and a $2 coin, and maybe even a $5 coin .... then dump the 1

Monte I ,sure would not miss the clad pennies. And getting more dollar coins would be nice. Will it happen. I do not see it happening yet. Sigh. But your right..location selection is the number one topic for good coin counts. I am here caring for my mom..yesterday was a beautiful day and I had to watch her...Today the care worker is here and they predict thunderstorms.
It's 10:30 and dark..so another lost hunting day...maybe wed will be nice.

Monte,
Having $1 and $2 coins can really make a hunt worthwhile, even if you dont find many coins, so I guess we are fortunate in that regard. I can understand why you would keep the 5" coil on the G2, as the place where I found the $2 I mentioned is an area which has been, and still is hunted regularly. I can only guess why this particular coin has been missed over the years (had to be years to get to that depth) is that another target made the $2 invisible to larger coils. I will add, that the same morning I was hunting with my Omega in another location, got a $2 signal (or thereabouts), and the first thing to come out of the ground was a rusty bottlecap, then after further investigation, out came the $2. I was using the 10" concentric on the Omega. Although I have had the Gold Bug for a limited time, I think that the Gold Bug/Omega combination could be a winner...has been so far. HH

Same thing happened to me.Found a $2 coin in a area I thought was searched out.I been finding my fair share of clad.If you dug everything over 40 no matter if its super jumpy VDI you should not miss flat coins.I have noticed that canadian coins on the side hit very badly even into the 20's on vdi.

The Depth is great.Took me some time but I am digging stuff deep.Small .22 bullet at 8" on the fresh water beach.Coins at 8". Pop bottle top at 10"
Fake gold plate ring at 6".I am sure I am passing up some deep stuff, not digging real jumpy vdi with real faint signal.

It's a simple machine but like any it will take me some time before I get it running top notch.

I tried the 5 inch coil from my F75 on the G2. I have a dime, quarter, nickel, and copper penny buried in 7 inch holes in my test garden. It was able to hit them all.

Thanks for the input, guys! The gold but has some good features, and it will take me a while to get used to it, but it hits well on coins and the one gold ring I've found so far... a very small ring, at the beach, between 2 and 4 inches down, at a guess, but the gold bug gave a sound that you just could not ignore. From that moment on I loved mine. HH all.
