Depth on gold nuggets

Bobbylikesgold

New member
I tested a ET 70 on a small nugget at my Minelab dealer, the nugget was one gram (31 grams per troy ounce )

Result was a rough air test of 4 inches max !

Checked Minelabs site for there review on gold, sure there's one by someone called BT ?

Come on Minelab how about some real AUTHORS names regarding testing this detector on gold.

Here's a post on the forum: http://www.findmall.com/read.php?55,450910,450910#msg-450910

Just do a search for terms like gold, nugget etc. Real detectorists using the X70 to find gold in the USA & OZ.

Hi Barnaclebill,

Thanks But...
Checked those posts, did you notice that there is NO depth mentioned, wonder Why !

Hey Minelab how deep in mid mineralised ground for a rice sized nugget?

Performance would have been tested, all I ask is WHAT was it ?

I have noticed B.T's posts. He made about three. I hope he continues with information.

The Victorian Golden Circle is known for gold. Also, I'm impressed
with Barnacle Bill.

I'm just an old nuggethunter trying to find a nugget. I'm not brand-loyal and do not sell detectors... just use them... Need and appreciate all the tips and information I can get on the '70. I have
one and planning on taking out to the well pounded Mojave Desert gold
fields which border California and Nevada.

Also, I like this forum... seems friendly and helpful... Maybe with posts like B.T and others, I will find one in 2007.

I like reading most of the posts. The best posts for this or any forum for that mater are the ones by the folks that hunt as a hobby when ever they can get some time to go. The things they learn and find and share with the rest of us.
I also like reading the posts/replies by BT, Monte and several others that try desperately to out do each other. Although comical at times I find what they say very informative. They either spend the entire day trying to figure out how to look smart to the rest of us or they do have something on the ball. I would prefer to think they enjoy sharing their knowledge with the forum first and foremost.
Just one mans opinion.
Bob

Hi all I posted some AZ gold I found a while back on this forum and the X70 is very capable for finding gold-I took it to a hardrock dig and found 2 specimens with it one had less than a one grainer bit in it but I still heard it-although not my main machine for nugget beepin-(I have a GPX-4000 I use all the time)-I wanted to prove that it-X70- could find small bits of gold-mission acomplished-I did do some test with it on a 3 grain nugget and easily picked it up at 3-4 inches-next I baried a 1 dwt nugget down 6-7 inches in hot ground and picked it up also-all test and finds made with the 9X5 dd elliptical coil in prospecting mode-I have also found meteorites with it along with coins and jewelery-it does what minelab said it could do-nuff said-now if gold beepin is your main interest then get a gold beeper-but if your looking for an all around beeper then the X70 fits the bill-I would post a pic of the gold but have since deleted it from my computer-you could go back about 6 months-give or take and see the pics I posted here-Mike C...AZ

and a damm fine judge of gold detectors. If you can find an author on the net or in any magazine that even comes close to the gold found and units tested by him, then I'll send you a eight grammer.
He also has the same opinion of the XT70 that I do, and thats that it's the best gold VLF made to date yet, by anyone. And like me I reckon BT has had a go at every gold unit made.

You know Bobby, you really should be doing your own field tests. Usage is the only way to get experience.

8 grams around eight inches in nice quiet ground (or in hot ground), 3 grams at four inches in heavy ground, half a gram at the surface, .2 of a gram at an inch, 92 ounces at 19 inches. What will impress you? Some will reproduce for you and some will not.

The woderful thing about detecting is that you get to judge the depth you think your going to get in ground once you actualy start going over undug targets in that ground. But you wont ever know if you dont ever go.

Hey Bobby ever wondered why you havent found any gold lately? GET off your rump, stop asking so many negative questions and get out there mate. Everybody has been very nice and helpful up to this point trying to answer your never ending questions about how good is the XT70 at finding gold. No one is going to wipe your ass for you mate have a little faith in what people are telling you and put the coil to the ground. You do know how to turn your detector on dont you?

BT has an article in the March edition of Australian Gem and Treasure on the X-Terra 70. He took it nugget hunting. The photo published by him on this forum., is one that is used in the article. I have browsed through the mag in the Newsagents, but haven't bought it yet. Should make interesting reading. He is a regular contributor to to magazine, and writes about other brands of detectors as well. They are always an informative read.

that you have asked several questions on this forum, and that a wide variety of people have tried to answer in a thoughtful manner, and now you belittle their efforts.

Don't be surprised that the next time you ask a question, that the more experienced people will simply ignore you. Why waste the bandwidth?

Thank you Mick in Dubblo... I have only posted several times on the forum... It was B.T's post that interested me... And I have asked him several questions.

As far as I know B.T has posted only 4-times on this forum... I have
read everyone of his posts... And I hope he finds time to continue
sharing his vast knowledge with us.

My guess(?) that the gold was found in a residual type deposit. A
chunk of overlooked gold bearing quartz vein... The gold shown
was just some of the chips... Beautiful stuff... I relate to B.T
mentioning he uses little "iron mask" in the All Metal... This leads me to correctly(?) believe it was part of an overlooked vein. Sometimes the "iron" is the clue to the presence of gold. (This worked... an iron reading... for me several times over the past.)

I hope B.T will keep on posting about using the X-terra 70. I
just got one and playing with it. I'm a slow learner and need all of the help I can get...

I'm serious about finding eluvial gold. I like the challenge and prefer using VLF-type machines... Mostly I hunt the Mojave Desert
in S. California as it within my reach.

My Best to All who reads this post... We have a great chance to learn
more about the X-terras on the forum...

Nugget,

Its only by pushing for real information on a good site like this that the truth comes out.

Thanks everyone for your comments.

Regards Bobby.

Hunting gold with the X-T70 would be an interesting experience. It would make a good all round machine.
I must plead complete ignorance on the 70 and gold hunting though. I only have the X-T 30 at the moment and I have never hunted gold; despite being on the edge of 2 large gold fields. Mind you; reading posts like this, gets my wanton desires for owning a X-T 70 going:lol:
There are 2 owners of X-T 70 in the local club, and it would be interesting to know how they go gold hunting with it.
