Depth On Explorer

How much depth will you lose going from the 10 1/2in. coil down to the 8in. coil? I just got the Explorer XS yesterday.

I can tell you a little bit here on this one I think. The stock coil is 10 1/2" and the minelab extra that Kelley Co sent is 7 3/8" they call it an 8" anyways I have dug pennies with here today at just over 6 1/2" because I had a ruler out and was comparing the Compass Gold Scanner to it today.I found two Wheat Pennies in an area I had thought was done giving up pennies.I just came in from the dark and was out trying my new Compass, anyways I found two pennies with it then got the Minelab out and compared its 2d meter reading and it picked the penny out but I had to get on an outside edge because something else was down there too,I knew that from the Compass meter jumping back and fourth when I hit it at different angles.Anyways a Penny a just a hair over 6 1/2" is darn good I think.I have heard of this coil going to 8" I don't know yet.

Rick, mine is a Minelab Explorer coil that measures about 7 1/4in. across. I know it's alot lighter than the 10 1/2in. coil. Makes it easier to swing. Thanks for the info.

that is the same one I have...It is a very good coil.I am just going to tell you what I have heard and have no personal experince but other people have and told me to save my Money, there is an after market coil out there that has a 12" and a true 8" and all I have heard is there lighter but the stock coils are deeper or just as deep.I was told to save my money and get a sunray probe insted.I am impressed with the Little coil myself.

Rick, everybody says get the X1 sunray probe. It's about $200.00 i think. I may get one sometime when i can afford it.

for me in local ground there is no depth loss switching from the 10 to the minelab 8 (7.5) because the ground is so murky. in other ground i am sure the 10 can go deeper, because that is the nature of larger coils. i think a 2" difference might be typical, but here no difference at all in this murky ground.
