Depth on a 6x10DD coil - M6

What depth are you folks getting on a 6X10 DD coil for an M6?
I just did an air test with a silver quarter in a 6" plastic container. I swept both slow and fast over the top of the container and wasn't getting any type of reading that I would dig in the field.
Feedback greatly appreciated.

I use the 6x10 coil most of the time on my M6. I get signals to about ten inches, deeper with larger targets. You should definately get a signal at six inches for a quarter. I suggest turning your disc almost all the way down, and cranking up your sensitivity. You can run the 6x10 at a higher sensitivity level than you can with the stock coil. Also air tests are not a good way to check things. The mineralization that happens in the ground when a target is there changes the strength of the signal.

I tried the stock coil yesterday with a silver quarter and was getting mixed readings sweeping side to side but repeatable readings going front to back.
I then put the quarter on top of the grass and it was still bouncing around with the vdi unless I was about 4 or 5" away.
Could it be my machine???

i used the 6x10 for a while and it would pick up quarters at 6-7 inches though weak. i recently changed to the d2 coil and it will hit a quarter 8-9 inches strong. sens. at100% and disc at first notch. i listen in tones

On my MXT I get a bit less depth than I do with the stock 9.5 in mild ground. However, should you encounter a fair bit of mineralization, the reverse occurs as the concentric 9.5 begins to lose depth. I do use the 6X10 quite a bit even in mild ground as I find it separates and slips thru trash a fair bit better in the parks I often hunt. My two bits.

I solved the problem!!! The air test doesn't work when you are doing it on your garage floor.
Weather was a hot 46 degrees yesterday and I tried again in my back yard with a solid reading at 6".

What is a d2 ? Is it a double D? does it give you that " wiper effect" ? I sometimes use a 4x6 double D in trashy areas, like Camp sites at state parks and whatnot It works great. But 4 or 5 inch depth max. I would like the same coil only deeper , would that be the D2?

You could use the D2 or the 6X10 which is also a double D design. Either will give more depth than the 4X6. The D2, from what I've read will give possibly several inches more depth over the 6X10, but doesn't separate quite as well in trash. I use the 6X10 as you describe using the 4X6, with good results unless the trash is very extreme and then I'll switch to the 4X6.

OK thanks for the info. I do like my 4x6 it seams to separate quite well,So maybe the 6x10 is what I want. I bought that "Super 12" & I am not to impressed with it.

I am in the same boat I have the 4x6 dd & the 6x10 eclipse the test I have ran show that I get more depth with the 4x6. Could my 6x10 be in need of repair. I thought it would go deeper than the 4x6?

The 6x10 should go deeper than the 4x6. I use both coils on my M6 and get a around 2 inches more depth on average with the 6x10. Consistent 7 with the 6x10 around 5 with the 4x6 but that's fine with me because I am using the 4x6 the separate targets in severe trash, I'm not worried so much about the depth.
