Depth of Fisher 1280X (help needed)

Tony

Member
Can anyone who has the Fisher 1280X Aquanaut please air test some coins please.

If you can use no DISC and Sensitivity at maximum at 10.

Air tests for dimes, nickels or quarters would be really appreciated so I can compare to my model.

Does anyone know if the 1280X goes deeper in ground than air test?

Thanks very much,

Tony.

I pulled mine out, Tony... batteries must not be good.
It did not function well, though it did OK last time I used it wading in a creek.

Just now it seemed to have the jitters at almost all settings, but at 5 sensitivity, 2 discrimination, and 5 volume it was hitting an air nickel at 3". I've dug targets in dirt and sand at 6, in the past.

Sry, I'll give a better report for you with some new batteries...

Much appreciated,

Tony.

I had mine out about two weeks ago after the storm. I did an air test and found it was about the same as always. 6 inches on a dime with a good solid beep and about 8 if it swipe faster and it was fainter. I did this because I read a post some place and the guy was getting only 4 inches on a dime, and someone claimed to get 12 in an air test? I have had this detector since 1993 and have found that if you tune it different direction it acts differently. Here what I mean go clockwise on any knob and it dose one thing start from the other way it dose another thing. What this means is depth if you go up the scale and get 4 inches but come down the scale and get 6 inches at the same spot this might be the answer we are looking for. I have only used this test in the water, I am still not 100% sure this was the case but I went of a area that I had just done very slow and the second time dug targets that were deeper as they were faint. I am pretty sure these knobs are pots and they will where with time. steve
