depth meter?

ok here is a question for you, how far off is the depth meter when using the 6x10 DD coil?

I have coins in my test garden at 7-8" deep, they have only been buried for a couple weeks prior to me getting my MXT, they do NOT give a visual id, but they do give a soft quiet tone. My question is when I try to pinpoint them and get a depth it says they are 11-12 inches deep, when I know I buried them at a measured 7-8"

is the 6x10 coil that far off? or is it because they are freshly buried?

Honestly, that's one of the reasons why I sold my 6x10 coil. I didn't like the faulty depth and (two) also the inaccuracy of the pinpointing.. There's many that swear by the coil. Again....IMHO. HH to all, Nancy

The pinpointing is not problem with the 6x10 for me. The depth for me is off about 2". I have 4 coils and the only one that will read correctly is the stock coil. The depth was also calibrated using a US penny. Rob

When pinpointing with the 6 X 10 you do it off the front or rear tip that's why your readings are so far off. now try just swinging the coil low and slow over the target and your reading will be more accurate but still off a bit.

It was off about an inch or so when I pinpointed with it. We have an arsenal of coils. My hubby Larry has a DFX (DFX Classroom moderator) and we share coils and some we have doubles. I really like the stock coil for deep hunting and also the 5.3" coil. If I can pry his 10" coil off his DFX, I'll give that a good try. Depending on what and where I'm hunting is when I change coils. BigFoot for the big fields, cladding, playgrounds, etc. Each coil has it's place. HH to all, Nancy

Nancy, when using the BigFoot how does it pinpoint. I have been thinking on getting one.

Bob, You can pinpoint on a dime. Seriously, you can! I have pinpointed a coin and the first poke with my tool was a direct hit probably 98% of the time. If it's deeper, it's the same way! Right on target. Downfalls of the BigFoot: It will only go about 4-5" deep. But still a wonderful all around coil to have in your collection if you hunt large areas. It will get right up to the playground poles, etc. and I've found MANY coins right next to them that others have missed. Just saw one for sale the other day, but sold now. HH to all, Nancy

Thank you Nancy,
