depth is even importand as iron mask effect! (does your detector fail?).

Dear Metal Detector Friend,
My advice is not to look always at the depth results.
As you all know there are a lot of iron trash targets in the ground.
A detector wich go verry deep does see more Iron targets, so it's posible that
the deepseeking metal detector ignore your coin near a iron target.
The iron mask effect could be even importand as the depth.
I have heard that there are good metal detectors with iron mask effect.
I hope you have some time to do the iron mask test with your detector.
I like to hear the results from you so I can put it in a table on my website.
HOW TO TEST IT:
Use the <IMG SRC="/forums/images/flag.jpg" BORDER=0 ALT="USA"> coins: 1 cent, 5 cents, 10 cents, 25 cents.
Use a iron stick size: 2-inch x 0,25-inch (be sure it is 100% iron).
If you do not have, you can ask if they have it in a iron shop.
If you use a nail remove the head (and the narrow point), so the
size will be equal (it's importand that we test all under the same circumstance!!!).
It is MUCH IMPORTAND that you know your detector 100%.
First check in the all metal mode (no discrimination) that there are NO
other metal targets in your test soil garden (if there are, remove them!!!).
Tune your discrimination slowly up that you find the point that it does
NOT detect the iron stick. (importand: keep discrimination LOW).
Please write your detector adjustments on a paper: detector type, coil size
discrimination level, sensetivity, hot rock (if you have this function) groundbalance,
and more what we need to know.
Put the iron stick with one coin 2,5-inch under the surface (this not a depth test!).
Be sure that your detector does detect these US coins on these depth without the iron
stick (test it!!!).
the space between the coin and the iron stick is 0,25-inch (not up or under but near!).
Be sure that these objects are 100% horizontal in the ground, even when you cover it with
the soil!
PLEASE BE SURE THAT YOUR MEASUREMENTS (OF EACH COIN) ARE EXACTLY THE
SAME!!!!!!!
I know that this iron mask test will not be the ideal test because if your are
in the field you can expect iron targets with a bigger size.
But the results will give some importand information wich detector will fail!
I'm sure that you can do this test in 30 minutes, and i'm sure you are curious about the iron-
mask results of your detector, and renember that all air, ground, and iron mask tests on my
website will help you (and many others) to choose the right detector in the future!
Many thanks if you want to work on these test.
If you want to know the latest update on my website let me know!
Also I hope you have some internet adresses for me with technical information
about metal detectors.
Let me know how you think about your detector, is it heavy, does it have a
good batterie system (no tiny wires).
I hope you will not forget me.
IF YOU HAVE SOME COMMENTS ABOUT THE TEST LET ME KNOW!!!!!
Renember my website is under construction, 1% is finished yet.
But I working on new update page's with detector information so
take a look in the future (tell your friends or detector club!).
Some forum operators doesn't like URL's, so e-mail me and I will
reply with my website adres.
Greetings: Cor Wielenga (Holland).
