Depth increase of Tejon over Cibola?

Canewrap

New member
Percentage wise how much of an increase in depth does the Tejon bring to the table, over the Cibola? I have a Cibola and am entertaining buying a Tejon. I need some depth increase to hunt those "hunted out" sites.

TIA,
Bill

I asked the same question a while back and everyone said that the Cibola is an awesome machine, but you WILL get better depth with the Tejon. I had a Silver Umax and I bought a Tejon. I still use both b/c both are awesome. I am still new to the Tejon and I get very good depth with it. I have dug items smaller than coins at 9 inches. I dug an indian head penny on edge in packed soil at about 7". I dig lots of coins that are on edge or that are stuck under rocks or roots that Im sure were missed by other detectorists. So far I get much better depth with the Tejon than I got with the Silver Umax, it seems like almost twice as much depth. THe Silver Umax is easy to use and relatively deep ( like the Cibola ), so I still use it in certain areas. I would get the Tejon and keep the Cibola b/c you will use both. You should get more depth with the Tejon and find coins that you missed with the Cibola. You can get a used Tejon for like $350 if you shop around - that's a super deal if you can find it. Killer Bee headphones are really good to use with the Tejon. Purchase the 5.75 concentric and you can use it with both machines, that thing is sweet!
Good Luck!

I like this response. Why does there have to be an either/or on these? Both have their place (besides, you can never have too much money, a woman that is too pretty or too many detectors/toys).

The Cibola will make an excellent, lightweight turn on and go unit, a good backup and 2nd "loaner" unit. Plus, by all accounts, it is no slouch on its own.

The Tejon is a great relic and deep seeker and adds whatever punch it has to the mix. It also has that cool dual-mode ID feature like the old 1266X.
Neat-O!

But, I wonder too, just how much "vast difference" is there between them in terms of depth? Depending on your soil, I wouldn't think it is huge and depending on YOU, it's possible you'll never know.

If budget is a problem, go for the Tejon. Take all you can get, after all. If you can afford to maintain both - do it. I doubt you'll be sorry.

does it seem most just just overlook the vaquero? tejon or cibola is all you seem to here about, wonder why more don't use the v. i personally think it is one of the best well rounded, all purpose machines to use, unless you just hunt for one type of target all the time.jmo.

I'm with ya here as I have the Tejon and Cibola. When I take these 2 machines, some days I'll use the Cibola and others I'll use the Tejon. Either one makes a fine backup.
For some extra depth on the Cibola, supertune the machine.
Beside the stock coils, I have the 5.75 concentric and 5.75 Widescan which works on both machines. Lately I have been thinking about getting the larger than stock coil to make the setups more versatile.
