depth guage

I have noticed that the E-Tracs depth gauge is way way off, worse than the EXP 2, has anyone noticed this or is it just my detector.

Hi Ray,

I've found mine to be off on shallow targets, usually less than 2 inches. Once they're 4+ mine's been running pretty accurate.

Go by your depth gauge when you're pinpointing. That seems correct the problem.

Take care,

NebTrac

My E-Trac depth gauge is usually accurate to about 6-7 inches - beyond that, it's accuracy tends to vary. Smaller targets may read deeper than they are, and larger targets may read shallower. Different coil sizes also affect the depth gauge.

Not to mention the depth gauge on Minelabs isnt set in inches. Its more of a metric machine. Unlike US based machine that go by inches.

It's tough for me to voice my opinion on this topic.
From day one - I made a bad habit of not looking at the depth gauge on good targets.
I usually go by the tone of the E-Trac's pin pointer - if it really screams it's usually shallow - if I get a lower tone - it's almost always a deeper target.
Then I check the target with my Garrett Pro-Pointer on the surface - if I don't get a tone - I just dig a bigger / deeper plug.

I've never lookd at the screen in the 8months i've been using my incredible etrac. The machines audio is so good, you only need ears!I never run my machine with sensitivity so high it sounds off-in Britain auto normally the best setting-maybe minus or plus one.Find it always pays to dig deeper than need be so i don't scratch the coin/relic/target,so long as ground's left tidy and neat after digging.Surely looking at screen wastes valuable tecting time!Happy tecting to all etrac converts worldwide.
