Depth gauge accuracy with different sized coils

Just curious, does anyone know if the CTX 3030 depth gauge remains accurate (i.e. recalibrate itself) with the different sized CTX smart coils (06 & 17) available? Thanks for any info you can provide. ---Cladiator

No it does not recalibrate. Depth gauges are usually only a guess as many things can throw them off. I do find the CTX much more accurate than most.

I don't have the 17-inch coil. But with the 6-inch Smart coil on the CTX 3030, a dime at 4-inches reads 4-inches; a quarter at 4-inches reads 4-inches; a penny at 4-inches reads 4-inches; the dime at 6-inches reads 6-inches; the quarter at 6-inches reads 6-inches; the penny at 6-inches reads 6-inches; the dime wasn't a solid hit at the airtested 8-inches, but read solid at 7-inches; the quarter at 8-inches read 8-inches; and the penny at 8-inches read 8-inches. As with all detectors, depths and depth readings may vary with soil conditions, adjacent targets, the "angle" of the coin, etc. Note again that these are air test readings. But in my 22 year old test garden, the depth measurements are very accurate, regardless of which coil I use. HH Randy

I read that question when you posted it, and thought I had responded. Must have gotten distracted and forgot to hit "Post Message"! Didn't mean to ignore you. HH Randy

That is good news Randy. I imagine since there are chips in the coils they can easily identify the size of the coil and do a quick adjustment - sounds like that is happening.

I have to say, thus far, the depth on the CTX is excellent on coins.
