depth boosters

There have been "boosters" around for many years as add on devices that increase the weak audio level of deeper targets. But they are of little use on detectors with which is loosely known as "saturated" audio. That term is used for detectors that give a loud report for a target whether it is shallow or deep.

There have also been some "gimmicky" feature additions to detectors over the years of a switch or setting that provides a "boost". Rarely used is an increase in transmit signal level because it simply eats batteries faster and then the manufacturer has to listen to complaints about battery life. There's also some question as to whether with VLF detectors it's detrimental in high trash or difficult ground.

There's also some receive settings on some detectors which cause the audio from the target to be held longer which they call a "boost". There can also be a change made to the ground filter speed and sensitivity to enhance the effect. On the X70 or X705 if you would like to explore the "boost" mode simply switch from Coin mode to the Prospecting mode and you can experience much of the same effects that are termed "boost" modes on other detectors.

Yea, I've tried a few over the years. They only lasted one or two hunts, gimmics, yes. Too bad the 70/705 could not ID in prospecting mode!! Also tried the new "Camo"
machine that has the "Boost" modes, still the same smoke screen, just built into the detector. Thanks, but no thanks, I'll stick to my 705. The Xterra series has out hunted everything I've tried in the last 2 years, hands down

Thanks Bill. IMO, external add-on audio boosters work on machines that are not "saturated" audio and/or not silent search. I did not know the 70(5)'s Prospecting Mode had some sort of boost? I have 2 boosters now and they are for Minelab SD/GP(X) machines. I had my first booster in about 1989-90 for my VLF gold prospecting.

Thanks morelic55. YES, that is only one of two complaints I have about the 70(5)'s. I DO wish the 70(5)'s could ID TID numbers -8 to +48 in the Prospecting Mode. This would be much better than IM(Iron Mask), IMO(InMyOpinion). I think the MXT has Target ID numbers in the Prospecting Mode. My other complaint is I would like more TID numbers for the 70(5)'s, but maybe there is a reason for the 70(5)'s not having more numbers like the MXT and Fisher-Teknetics machines have. Otherwise I like my 70, and also it is very encouraging to hear this from you => "I'll stick to my 705. The Xterra series has out hunted everything I've tried in the last 2 years, hands down".

I think that "Camo" machine you are referring to is the new T2 Ltd in Camo colors with a Boost Mode? First Texas Products explains the new T2 Ltd Camo is the best metal detector that was ever made and it will out hunt any other detector. morelic55, it is really good to hear from you that the 70(5) is a better machine!
