depth and discrimination

Does the GT loose depth as discrimination is increased? The advantage doesn't but I know of some brands that do.

Never notice it if it does, but with the Sovereign you can run no or very little disc and go by the tones as what is good and what is bad.

Yes it does but the Advantage hasn't really got the discrimination to lose at depth. Its as though its in all metal.

i thought the advantage had full range disrimination, maybe even more than the sovereign. i'm not sure but i think you can even disc. out zinc pennies which you can't on the sovereign. thanks.

I think Brian is correct on this. Something I noticed with the Advantage was if you set it to knock out a pulltab, and then test it say at 6" away from the coil, then slowly keep sweeping it but keep going away from the coil it will come back as a signal. I never thought the Advantage was much on discrimination except on small iron. Also if you run the advantage at nickel disc or higher your going to be masking out alot of clad and silver coins.

you can run the sovereign at full disc. and not mask siver or clad, shouldn't you be able to do the same with the advantage. thanks

Hi Chuck,

I dont believe you can run the sov full disc and not suffer masking associated with higher disc settings or even lower disc settings for that matter. Even at 0 disc iron mask helps with the masking but doesnt eliminate it completely.
