Depth and discrimination...

Unlike non-notch discriminators, you should not see a loss of detection depth as more notches are blocked out. With that said, the downside may show up when a target ID is shifted due to depth or ground conditions so that it no longer hits in the notch you thought it would and is now in a rejected notch.

Indian Head pennies did this a good deal in my field tests . . . . dry, mineralized ground caused them to shift DOWN the scale 2 to 4 numbers which would have been ignored if I did not understand that and base my decision to dig on the site age, ground conditions and previous testing.

So no, more discrimination on the X-70 will not result in a loss of depth but you may loose targets based on where they fall in relation to what is being rejected.

Hope this helps

Early on getting one of the first indian head dates in the area of square tab and a seated dime in the Zinc area I learned to set discriminate or notch to sort of give me room to accept those targets that for some reason as aforementioned read low..Certainly applicable to most any unit and for the newbie or oldbie to note and one wonders how much is missed because of these variations...Bit cold in N.E. Pa. to get out in the country where I usually get my deep silver...so time will tell....You know the drill as your shop in Pa. was about 30 minutes from me...
