depth and discrimination

Hi Folks,

I'm a newbie to this forum and metal detecting. I'm so new to detecting I'm waiting for UPS to arrive tomorrow with my Garrett Gtax 400 I bought through e-bay for $198.00 ($400 from Garrett).

I've spent 2.5 hours reading this forum and haven't found any comments on the Gtax 400 so I'd love some input please.

:help: In one of the post I saw a reference to a gentleman's post regarding "depth and discrimination" but I haven't found it. I'd really appreciate being pointed in the right direction so I can read this puppy. If the author wouldn't mind, please e-mail it to me at webdoc@sc.rr.com.

I'm stoked ... I've learned a ton from reading the several threads (first 16 pages). This seems like a very knowledgeable and sporty group with a good sense of humor or else you might just be delirious from swing slow, swing low and digging deep. ;)

I'm looking forward to a great time hunting and visiting this forum regularly.

Thanks and have a good one!

WElcome aboard. Keep us posted. The 400 is a basic machine but will find coins. Just doesn't have a lot of bells and whistles.

Hi Bill,

Thank you for the welcome and your reply.

After speaking with several folks I learned the GTax 400 had all the 250 had with a few more features and a stronger column, detachable hip mount battery pack and the same graphic target analyser as the GTC. I bought it for the same price as the 250 cost (normally ($400).

I'm trying to find a coil cover for the 8.5" coil. I got a few tips to wrap nylon or plastic around it and tape it up to avoid scratches on the bottom of the coil.

I found the EZ-DIG-R on E-bay for $28 instead of the normal $49 too.

I have a lot to learn but thanks to this forum and the many terrific post I'm anxious to get started. I'll keep you posted to my adventures. :detecting:

Cheers,
Greg
