Dependability of Excalibur

I am planning on buying a water dectector and like the Excalibur but have heard that it has a tendency to break down and that the repair costs are quite expensive. Any comments.
 
Most Excalibur problems are related to coil cable failure resulting from hip mounting. A lot of Excalibur owners end up hip mounting because the detector is unbalanced and feels very heavy. I had to have my coil replaced years ago before I started using a straight shaft. Since I got the new shaft I have had zero problems with my Excalibur. The shaft in the photo is one I just started using and it is the best one I have used so far. One of the guys in my club is selling them on ebay. ~John
 
there is no one as careless or as clumsy as me out there. i have had my excalibur for 3 years and have had no problems. i have two suggestions. first, stay away from the hip mount kit. second, get a straight shaft with a knob protector. other than that there is no reason why you can't enjoy your excalibur for years.
