demolition site

So they are putting in a CVS pharmacy and three houses and an old Krogers store are being demolished.

I went hunting on a couple of the old house sites today while the excavator operator was crushing lumber from the fourth house. He came down to talk and said his buddy found a 1934 dime when the tore out the steps. He showed me where the steps are, but they're all piled up, not much of an area to detect.

These houses are from 1910 at least, but all I found was clad, mostly jailhouse pennies. The oldest was 1960. Maybe when they get the lumber debris from the last house it might be better hunting. Or maybe my minelab 705 just doesn't go deep enough and I'm just not that good at finding deep targets. I used a double D 6 inch coil.

Found a sterling silver ring and a watch, too.

Try that site again. Got to be some nice old coins there somewhere. :detecting:

You're 705 is plenty deep enough. Scrub the ground and go slow. Put GB tracking on and do a noise cancel when first get there. Be patient. It also could be that most have been picked up also.

I'm gonna try again tomorrow if it isn't raining. I have a 6inch 3khz coil by coiltec that is pretty good with dimes, will try that one. A jailhouse penny has that...whatever it is, some kind of mansion on the back looks like a jailhouse.

Congrats, bet you get that silver yet

Brianc577,

I too had that same question and assumed he meant pennies with the Lincoln Memorial on the back. Based upon his later post, I believe I am correct. Google "US penny" and you will see they were produced from 1959-2008.

Respectfully,

Batch

When I was a kid it thought it was a jailhouse.

Nice finds pplinker! The Lincoln Cent was first minted in 1909 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Lincoln's birth. The Lincoln Memorial Cent began production in 1959 to commemorate the 150th anniversary of Lincoln's birth and as you guessed, in 2009 the new reverses were implemented to commemorate the 200th anniversary of Lincoln's birth. We might have to wait until 2059 for the NEXT change! I hope that we are still around to see it! Best of luck and...

Happy Hunting!
