Delta Finds

This old home site dates back to the the early 1800's....Seems every trip there produces something...Found this fiftieth year token of the Long-Bell Lumber co. from 1875-1925.....also some type of clip or something with pat. date Apr. 24 1900. and old trade token......finds were about 7 to 10"

Commemorative tokens, trade tokens, interesting things that aren't common to modern-day hunt sites. Your post and photos are good support for return visits to many older sites. Way to go! Oh, I'm sure a nice old coin in favorable condition would have also been a welcome recovery, but you made some good and interesting finds, and that's what counts in this sport.

Were you using the stock 8" coil? Which mode and settings did you use? I have asked a lot of Delta users and many just say they use the default Discrimination level, increase the Target Volume to maximum, bump the Sensitivity up as long as it remains stable, then go have fun.

All the best on your next trip there.

Was using the 8" coil. Was using the disc mode with only iron out. Volume at 8 and sensitivity at 10 and sometimes 11. Max(12) is unstable at this site.......The two tokens id. different. The smaller token bounced from 68-70 while the larger one stayed mostly at 85.(I really thought I had a silver).......a lot of top soil here.....what I'm wondering is, am I missing stuff with the delta or in need of a better coil? I have found some older wheats there but not any silver....surely there is a silver in the mix somewhere........also I get unstable signals that bounce from foil to silver but wont lock on to anything......probally trash?

The 8" coil is a good match for most detecting with the Delta.

Different tokes, different readings is very common.

I'd say the one token read in the 68 to 70 range, but I don't consider that a 'bounce.' To me, a bounce will probably spread over more than one TID segment or at least have a VDI spread of about 10 or more numbers.

It's possible that you might have some deeper coins, but it really isn't always the case. In modern-use sites that have been used regularly for the past 50 years or so, it is quite likely that the bulk of the older coins, to include silver, was recovered during the hey-day of the detecting hobby back from the very late '60s and especially through the '70s and '80s. Naturally, not all of them were found, and some are masked by modern trash closer to them or closer to the surface.

To have a greater chance of recovering older coins we all need to clean out modern sites to remove the masking junk, but especially look for the fringe areas that might not have been detected, as well as seek less common sites that might not have been detected much, or possibly not at all. It's winter and, for me, that means it's research time. Need to be ready for spring-time hunting. :)
