Today I did a test with my Delta and the 11" DD coil - buried a classic head LC at 9 inches, to see what it sounds like at that depth (covered in soil) - well interestingly I got a nice beautiful signal from one side, high 80's/low 90's reading , but turned to a 45 degree to cross scan it, I got nothing. NADA. So... it was a big lesson to me, and made me think about all the signals like that I have not dug assuming it was iron falsing. Goes to show that you should dig the iffy signal from time to time if you have a nice repeatable SOMEWHERE... Also, found that at shallow depth of about 3 inches, with sensitivity 11, Disc mode, only Iron nulled out, I got mid to high 90's 50 cent piece readings, and it even hit 99. Someone else commented a while back that if you see 99, it's ALWAYS big iron close to the surface, and I have found this to be absolutely true... until today... I'm currently working a super dense 1800's site where there is big iron EVERYWHERE just under the surface, and I have dug a ton of overload and 99 signals - mostly true that it's big iron, but have found some great objects as well like a big bell and an early 1914 license plate... Anyway, not sure if this will be helpful to anyone, but my main target this summer is large coppers, and I'm glad I did this test so that when I'm on site I'll think twice before passing up a signal that acts the way my LC did today.... Cheers, BB PS, if anyone is interested in this I could try and re-create it in video sometime... Let me know...
