i have both the ace250 and the x-terra 50.. the x50 is vastly superior on the beach and up to ankle deep water to the 250... with the 250, i would get nickel signals that turned out to be small pieces of foil.. even in jewlerey mode.. with the x50, it ignores the foil in mode 1 (discriminates out -9 to +3 on the scale) but has no problem finding nickels... you get ALOT better target hits and alot deeper than the 250... with the 250 I couldnt even bring it near the water line, with the x50, i have been able to bring it ankle deep and still find items no problem.. since i changed to the x-terra 50, my finds have vastly increased, and the trash has dropped.. (call me crazy but i didnt find any jewlery on the beach until i got my x50)
yes, manual GB, and the other features of the x50 are vastly superior to the ace in many ways, for a beach up to ankle deep, I highly suggest that machine.. but for me, i want to go into the water waist deep... so now my x50 is up for sale thats only about 2 weeks old if that... if your interested, its in the for sale section, I need a waterproof machine for going into the surf. I have even added a backlight so you can hunt the beach after the beach goers have gone in for the night...
if you need any more info on the differences between the ace and the x-terra for beach use, feel free to contact me, I pretty much only beach hunt and have used both machines..
hope this helps
