Hi Roper.
I actually use cheap ear buds! They seem to offer electrical resistance, thus are quieter on the ears. I tried using the ear buds from my MP3 player a couple of weeks ago and nearly blue my ears apart! I dropped the detector as a result.
Just make sure that they are at least 4 foot long (1.25m), otherwise they will be pulled out of your ears by your swinging action.
