DeLeon?

Hello all,
I am new to detecting. Been using a cheap Radio Shack model, and when I can, a fishers cz-5 of my cousin's...( Thanks Cuz! )I am hooked.... I have been looking for a mid priced detector that I can use for now, and then hand it down to the next generation, when I come up with the cash for a better one. I like what I seen on the DeLeon, until I seen it has an auto ground balance, with no manual control. I was wondering if anyone has used the DeLeon, and if it still has good depth, with the auto ground balancing. Any comments or seguestion will be greatly apprieated...

I've had mine now for several months and it is a great machine, very light weight, excellent warranty. I have collected nickles, dimes and quarters in hard clay/sand at appx 7-8". I have the 9x8, 7" and 4" coils for it. Since I basically water hunt I don't get it out too often, but when I do I like it a lot. hh al

If you like your cousins CZ5 why not pick one up used? You should be able to find one on the classifieds here on Findmall for about the same price as a new Deleon ($450 or so). The CZ5 is much more versitile than a Deleon.

That what scares me about this unit, Does it still preform well being preset, I have been using a fishers cz-5 and it is pretty important to have the GB ajusted right to achieve maximum depth

Thanks al,
I am new to this hobby, all the info I can get is very helpful.

I have thought about getting a used unit, but not having a warranty scares me... I was thinking of getting something I can afford for now, then hand it down to the yongster, after I can aford a new Explorer II <img src="/metal/html/grin.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":grin">
Thanks for your reply!

I guess that depends on where you live and the soil conditions. The preset GB works pretty darn good in mellow ground(from what I've heard). It was pretty negative for the ground here in Oregon.

What the boys are telling you is, if your ground doesn't have alot of minerals such as black sand, and salt you will like the Deleon much better.
You might ask your cuz what the ground is like if your not sure about the black sand condition.
What part of the country are you in?

inserting your E-mail address when you post. There are many of us who consider those who include their E-mail address in their post to be more serious, devoted hobbyists or avid detectorists. Often, I know I prefer to respond to a poster directly rather than run the risk of <EM>"rocking the boat"</EM> with a reply on the form.
