deleon

I just bought one myself, also looking forward to tips and comments

I used one for around 7 yrs and really liked it, the soil here in La where I've hunted is fairly mild so not having a manual gb wasn't a problem, the tid/vid info was very useful and probably as accurate as any other machine, although like others it could be fooled by large pieces of aluminum and iron, odd shaped pieces of metal will usually give you a strange readout with the tid/vid jumping around. Mine went fairly deep I think I've recovered pennies and dimes down to 7-8" and dug an old axe head that was over a foot deep, unless you have EMI you should be able to run the DeLeon super tuned (max threshold and sens into the orange), the only reason I got rid of mine was because I wanted to try something that had multiple tones along with the tid/vid readout and I needed to use something for trade. Hope this helps some and I'd be glad to answer any other questions you might have. Jimmie

thanks jimmie i would like to know where did you set your detector so that it would find gold rings and such what would your id number say and what would it say when it was a tab. was the id pertty close to what it read compared to what you dug like

If you want to find gold your going to have to set your disc just under foil and dig everything, if I remember correctly one of the tabs id'd in the upper 30's to lower 40's the other in the upper 50's range sorry I can't remember the exact numbers, nickles id around 35-38 tho, hope this helps some.

gold rings on average were about 44, IH pennies come in at 66-68 zinc 76-78 or 95 bullets 58 to 62 nickels 32 to 38 it seemed the older they were the higher number and sometimes had a slight broken sound at the end of the swing, hunting in all metal there's no mistake in telling the hot rocks from the good targets, hot rocks have a long stretched out sound and will take a second also for recovery. super machine!

I bought one last fall as well, but didn't get much time in with it before bad weather set-in. I can say that I really like it, though it will take some getting used to. If you search this board, there are a couple (few?) guys who've posted their TID reading/ranges, as well as settings. I'm really looking forward to spring, for several reasons....but mostly so I can get the DeLeon back out!

Smitty

Smitty thanks for the info i to am waiting for spring as it has already been a long winter here in iowa i took a little extra work this winter doing some snow plowing its never ending already plowed for ten hours today. On a good note ive seen about eight to ten old run down farms i will try to get in this year and hunt im still looking for my first gold anything got a lot of silver but no gold.

pettit, highly mineralized rock that on most preset ground bal machines the signal will be thrown off some creating some eratic behavior to the machine, i tried some prospecting on a river not to far where i live using all metal and the 4" sniper coil the slightest difference in signal and change on the screen i would dig
